The Calendar of Events May Take Several Days

Big Indian Weddings are known to be large festivities, with hundreds of people dancing and celebrating for the entire week. Typically, with all the traditions and ceremonies included, a large Indian wedding can take anywhere from 3-7 days.  It’s a great opportunity for family and friends to get reacquainted, while learning more about the couple and blessing them with good wishes for their future.  Celebrations can include; a ladies sangeet, with singing and dancing that lasts well into the night, a mehendi ceremony for the bride to prepare for the big day, a haldi ceremony when the couple is treated to special turmeric masks as a ceremonious beginning to the wedding, and many variations of prayers for the new couple.

Vibrant Coloured Clothes and Dazzling Accessories

Along with the bride and groom, guests are also expected to dress their very best at an Indian wedding.  Fancy clothes with bright colours and glittering jewelry or broaches to match are a common occurrence. Men, women and children related to the happy couple are encouraged to show off their favorite outfits.  Indian or Western, guests should include a shawl or stole as part of their ensemble, in case religious ceremonies require attendees to cover their head.

Food. Food. Food.

Depending on the couples diet, vegetarian and non-vegetarian menus may be prepared for the entire week.  Alcohol can also be expected based on the couples preferences.  Regardless, Indian weddings are best known for their exhaustive menu.  From appetizers to scrumptious traditional desserts, guests can expect to be eating the very best of their cultural cuisine throughout the week of events. There is always something fun for everyone’s palate to enjoy.
